This PML transmission pan fits the GM 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E transmissions.

PML designed this pan as a heavy duty, extra capacity replacement for the GM shallow pan that came with vehicles model year 1998 and older and a few vehicles, such as Camaro and Firebird up to 2002. The stock GM shallow pan and the stock GM deep pan are shown in the picture below.

The key distinguishing feature between the stock GM shallow pan and the stock GM deep pan is the step at the back of the pan. (Click on image to view larger.)

Note there are two versions of the stock GM shallow pan. They have the same depth. The older version is primarily found on 700R4 transmissions. This PML pan, part number 8650-1, can replace either style GM shallow pan.

You should always check your truck, SUV, or van to see which stock pan you have and look for clearance with exhaust, drive shaft and frame cross members. Generally, here are some examples of vehicles that this PML pan fits:

  • Blazer (mini), 1988 to 1998, i4, 2.8, or 4.3 engine
  • C10/K10, 1986 to 1987, 4.3, 305, or 350 engine (check drive shaft)
  • C1500/K1500, 1988 to 1995, 4.3, 5.0, or 5.7 engine
  • C2500/K2500, 1990 to 1999, 5.0 or 5.7 engine
  • Express, 1996 to 1998, 4.3, 4.8, 5.0, 5.3 or 5.7 engine
  • S10, 1988 to 1998, i4, 2.8, or 4.3 engine
  • S15, 1988 to 1998, i4, 2.8, or 4.3 engine
  • Savana, 1996 to 1998, 4.3, 4.8, 5.0, 5.3, or 5.7 engine
  • Sonoma, 1991 to 1998, i4 or 4.3 engine
  • Suburban 1500, 1986 to 1991, 350, 400, or 6.2 diesel engine
  • Suburban 1500, 1992 to 1998, 5.7 or 6.5 diesel engine
  • Tahoe, 1995 to 1998, 5.7 engine
  • Yukon, 1992 to 1998, 5.7 engine

Check Drive Shaft. Some of these vehicles may have the drive shaft too close to the stock pan to allow for thicker walls of the PML pan. Check the location of your drive shaft before ordering. See pictures on a 1986 K10 below.

Later year models of the above vehicles have exhaust or frame cross members running under the pan and our part number 9427 is designed with a step for clearance on those vehicles.

Filter Information

PML designed this pan to work with the 700R4 and 4L60E filters that fit the stock GM shallow pan. Please see our Filter Guide for PML Part Number 8650-1.

The filter supports are the three cylinders in the middle of the pan on the inside. These filter supports are designed for the 700R4 and shallow 4L60E filters.

Optionally, this pan can be machined for a temperature sending unit. The pan has bosses on the passenger's side and the driver's side that can be machined. PML has a machine shop and can drill and tap to your specifications. Please call to order machining.

The drain is on the driver's side.

Shift Cable Mounting Bracket

You may have to modify your shift cable mounting bracket to use this pan. If the trans pan mounting bolts hold the shift cable bracket on, please reference this article from Vette magazine for details.

Installations

PML Pan on 1986 K10 Too Close to Drive Shaft

Justin installed this PML pan on his 1986 GMC K-10 4x4 with the 700R4 transmission and the New Process NP 208 transfer case. The factory drive shaft with the 2 inch tube comes quite close to the stock pan. Because the PML pan has thick walls, the space between the PML pan and the drive shaft is about 0.06 inches. This is too close.

Justin also let us know that this PML pan fits just fine with the factory exhaust on a 305 V8 bu the pipes had to be dropped to install the pan.
